Author of UX for Lean Startups

I'm the author of UX for Lean Startups. I've been working in tech companies since the mid 90s as both an engineer and a user experience designer. Currently, I work with companies of various sizes helping them improve their product development process. My goal is help companies make products that customers actually enjoy using.

It depends on what I'm doing. I tend to build prototypes in HTML, CSS, and Javascript, which doesn't require any special software - just an IDE. I use Balsamiq for quick sketching. I use GoToMeeting or for remote moderated user research. I sometimes use for unmoderated tests and FiveSecondTest to test landing page messaging. I use Omnigraffle for creating user flows and Photoshop only when I've completely run out of options. At the moment, I do a lot of workshops and talks, so I find myself making a lot of decks in Keynote, but I'm not happy about that.

Ideal work environment

I prefer a small, cross functional product team of experts. The team needs to have people who understand the business needs, people who understand the user needs, and people who can implement solutions. The size of the team depends on the skills of the individual members.

Users. I get inspired by solving real problems for real people.
