Q&A with Simon C Page

British digital designer & illustrator

My name is Simon C Page. I would call myself a digital designer and illustrator. Arousing people's feelings with graphic design and creating work that genuinely stimulates people's emotions is something I constantly aim for as a designer.

My philosophy is "Good design excites".

I like my work to adapt and evolve naturally for each project and not stay too static, often challenging myself with new self-initiated works, regularly showing variation in my creative process.

Hardware

I originally started out on a PC but moved to an iMac, Macbook and iPad over the last 3 years. I used to like building PCs but have fallen for Apple's simplicity now and I don't see myself moving from this platform.

Software

I use Adobe CS6 predominantly with most of my time spent in illustrator and then less time in Photoshop adding final effects etc. I haven't as yet moved to the new Adobe subscription service but I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

I also have a number of the sketch apps on the iPad top 2 being Paper and Sketchbook Pro which I use with an Wacom intuos creative stylus which is great for out on the move sketching and idea creation.

Dream setup

In terms of hardware I think I would like a 3 screen setup. I use 2 screens at the moment but I would really like to have a screen dedicated to illustrator and photoshop. In terms of location I would like to setup a studio in Switzerland high up where I could mixed snow and design 6 months of the year.

Inspiration

Mathematics (In particularly geometry) is my biggest inspiration. Although I am self-taught I did do a degree in Applied Mathematics which most people can see in my work. But other inspirations come from film, music and science fiction. I like to design stuff that is new and I like to pull inspiration from lots of new things and I think it is important to always carry a notepad with you as inspiration can hit you at any time and it is important to capture it when it does.
