Work inspiration with
Rob Flowers

Hello my name is Rob Flowers & I'm an illustrator. I spend most of my time either illustrating stuff influenced by some of his favourite things or searching for junk to add to my growing collection of assorted miscellany. Said favourites include medieval bestiaries, Halloween ephemera, folklore and mythology, Sid and Marty Kroftt, clowns, sideshow and circuses and 80s gross-out toys.

Ideally I’d like to live in a land of hamburger patches, milkshake volcanoes and fillet-o-fish lakes.

My work has been described as

trippy.... as if you took a whole load of acid, ate too much candyfloss and went on the waltzers at your town's local fair. It's all a bit much, borderline grotesque, but you had a brilliant time.

Tools

Usually pencil & paper, then I scan my drawings in & colour them using Photoshop & Illustrator

Ideal work environment

My studio with the heating on.

Inspiration

As I said, I collect toys &, as a lot of my stuff is character based, it is informed by that. I also have a keen interest in folklore & mythology, all of which bleeds into my creative process.

Admire most

A few of my favourite artists are, Dr. Seuss, Keiichi Tanaami, Tadanori Yokoo, Winsor McCay, Maurice Sendak & Charles Burns
